The Stars Love the Top Knot

The top knot or high bun is here to stay, well at least for now.  It seems as though the celebrities love throwing their hair up into a high bun and going on their merry way.

It's this photo of Christina Milan and daughter Violet just the cutest?  Christina is rocking her top knot while Violet rocks baby puffs.

Nicole Richie sports her top knot while working out!

Looks like Kourtney Kardashian and Kim Kardashian both sport matching top knots after workouts too!

So ladies, do you rock a top knot?

Number 1 Hair Style in America

Quick guess what hairstyle is the most popular style in America?  If you guessed the Ponytail then you are correct.  According to a study done by Goody 56 percent—say that the ponytail is their favorite hairstyle when wearing hair pulled back. Sixty percent say quickness is the main reason to resort to ponytails so often.

I must admit, while the ponytail is not my favorite hairstyle it's probably one that I wear often.  The ponytail has got to be the easiest hairstyle to do, plus it's simple to do.

Rock the Look: Katy Perry's 1940's Hair

Fekkai Celebrity Stylist Renato Campora was inspired to create a 1940’s look after seeing Katy’s Atelier Versace dress.  The final hairstyle can be described as a modern take on 1940's Hollywood.

Rock the Look:

  • Renato began by creating a side part to the wet hair. He applied Fekkai Full Blown Mousse throughout the hair to build a strong and reliable base.
  • Renato then blow-dried the hair using a round brush. Once the hair was completely dry, he used a ½ inch curling iron to add shape.
  • After letting the curls cool off he allowed the curls to set for 15 minutes and then brushed through the hair. Renato used Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairpsrayto secure the look, adding a lasting finish and shine.
  • To create the final touch, Renato took a one-inch strand of the hair and pinned it back with a vintage hairpiece, securing it with a bobby pin.

Katy rocked a matching parasol and added a cute little flowery thing in the side of her hairdo.

Later in the night Katy was seen sporting a whole new outfit and a yellow cube on top of her head, I know the person sitting behind her was pissed off!

All products by Fekkai: Fekkai Full Volume Mousse ($21), and Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray ($24). Available at Fekkai.com and Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue stores.

Obliphica Deep Conditioning Treatment Review

Obliphica Treatment Hair Mask 500ml

An Obliphica is a sea Buckthorn fruit which is considered a rare fruit, it grows in the Himalayas and Siberia and has been getting quite a bit of press lately for being a superfruit. Because it has an incredible concentration of natural vitamin C, more than 15 times greater than in oranges, the Obliphica is among the best sources of vitamins and phytonutrients in the world!

That's when I heard about the Obliphica Hair Care Line I knew I wanted to try it.  I was able to test out the Obliphica Treatment Shampoo, Treatment Hair Mask, and the Serum.  Out of all three products, the Treatment Hair Mask was my favorite.  Keep on reading to find out why!

Adele Loves the '60s Hair

Adele is one of my favorite singers, her voice just moves me.  She performed last night at the MTV VMAs and I have to say I would love to see her perform live in a small venue.  Every time I see her make an appearance she always stays true to her signature style, the 60's hair and I love it.  It perfectly suits her entire image.  If you haven't purchased her 21 album, do yourself a favor and get on that!

Looks like the side ponytail was a big hit at the MTV VMA's this year.

Beyonce's Baby Bump + Side Pony

Beyonce stunned everyone with pregnancy news at the 2011 MTV VMA's last night.  I say it's about time.  I've been waiting for Beyonce and Jay-Z to have a baby since they tied the knot back in 2008, but now it's come to reality and she looks better than ever.  Beyonce rocked an orange asymmetrical Lanvin dress on the red carpet that showed off her small baby bump.

I loved her hair style choice too, a low side ponytail with a side swept bang.  Gorgeous!  Can't wait to see how she's looking closer towards the 9th month of her pregnancy!

Vanessa Simmons Braided 'Do

Yesterday, Vanessa Simmons attended the Give Back Hollywood Foundation's benefit for VH1 Save the Music Foundation.  Vanessa looked awesome with the bob she's been recently sporting, but she changed it up by adding two loose braids in the front that were pinned back off the face.  The rest of her hair had a slight wave to it and overall the look seems easy to recreate.

I'll be trying it, how about you?

Beauty Break: Matching Lips to Nails

Rihanna was out for lunch with friends at Chuflay Bar and Restaurant with her curls piled up high on her head, but what caught my attention was her matching lipstick and nail polish.

So here's the beauty question of the day:  Do you ever match your lipstick to your nail polish?

Rock the Look: Nicole Richie 60s Ponytail

Wella Professionals Celebrity Stylist Andy Lecompte styled Nicole Richie’s super cute 60s-inspired high pony as she celebrated Charlotte Ronson’s new beauty line.

Rock the Look:
1. To start, Andy applied Wella Professionals Thermal Image Heat Protection Spray to each section of Nicole’s already dry hair to leave hair soft, shiny and manageable before smoothing out locks with a flat iron
2. Next, Andy pulled a mo-hawk section of the hair up and away while he pulled the rest of the hair into a super high pony with two elastics at the crown of the head for extra volume
3. Release the mo-hawk section of the hair and lightly blast with a blow dryer to find a part and smooth out any kinks
4. Lightly shake out the top section of the hair to let face-framing fringe fall, then separate the remaining hair into two sections on both sides of the head
5. One at a time, wrap the sections around the pony pin one at a time and secure with hair pins to hide the elastic and give shape to the head
6. Smooth fly-aways and set the look with a light mist of Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray
7. Add red-carpet worthy shine with Wella Professionals Shimmer Delight Shine Spray

*Shiny Hair Secret: Nicole takes excellent care of her hair with a great conditioning regimen. Boost your hair’s shine with a deep conditioner such as Wella Professionals Enrich Treatment to get instantly softer, shinier strands.

Relaxer Stretch

Ever since starting my hair care journey the biggest change in my hair care regimen is stretching my relaxers.  I've tried super long stretches, like 20 weeks worth of stretching but I've come to like going about 10-12 weeks only.  Back when I didn't know any better, I would relax every 5-6 weeks.  Can you imagine that?  Sometimes I would do what's called a 'halo' which is just relaxing the edges and I'd do that as soon as there was a kink in sight.  I'm surprised I even still have hair.

So ladies, how often do you relax your hair?

Back to School Hair Must Haves

Currently, the term "Back to School" means absolutely nothing to me.  I've completed what needs to be completed for now and I've settled into my regular 9 to 5, which is in my case more like a 7 to 7 but anyway who's being picky?  But even though I'm done with my school days for now, that doesn't mean I don't remember heading back to college like it was yesterday.  I wish I knew then what I know now in terms of hair care!  If I could turn back the hands of time these are my top 5 items that would have to be going back to campus with me.

Hair Therapy Wrap Cordless Thermal Turban Heat Wrap 1 piece Hair Therapy Wrap 1 piece
1. Heat Therapy Wrap
I've praised this Heat Therapy Wrap so many times here on The Anti Hair Slave because it's cordless and easy to use.  All you have to do is heat it up in the microwave and put it on your hair to give yourself an awesome deep condition.  It works like a charm every time, I even use it to do "warm" oil treatments with coconut oil.
Miss KEY 10 En 1 Super Conditioner 28oz Jar
2. Miss Keys 10 en 1 Deep conditioner
The above link is for the giant 28oz. jar because once you're away at college will you really be able to get your hands on more?  I remember when I ran out of my staple conditioner, I vowed never to let it happen again!  This is one of the first conditioners I used when I started my journey to healthy hair care and I'm still using it because my hair loves it.
Nutiva - Coconut Oil Organic, 15 oz solid
3. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is hands down my favorite hair care oil.  I've used a lot and I keep coming back to coconut oil.  Not only does it penetrate the hair shaft, it also gives amazing shine, plus it can be added into other hair care items like shampoo and conditioner for even more benefits.  Not to  mention, during mid-terms and final times you are going to be aching for a soothing scalp massage and using coconut oil makes it even better!
Plugged In Wet Look Shower CombDenman Cushion Brush Nylon Bristles, 9-Row
4. Jilbere Shower Comb & Denman Brush
You could subsitute these two items for any wide tooth comb for using when shampooing and deep conditioning and detangling and any Doobie brush will work just as well as the denman for wrapping up your hair at night if you wear it straight.
Diane Reinforced Boar Bristle Wave Brush #8159
5. Boar Bristle Brush
This brush is for the days when you need to smooth out the edges.  If you weren't luckily born with edges that just lay flat without being 'handled' by this type of brush you don't need it!

Celebrity Hair Watch: Zoe Saldana

I'm just so happy for Zoe Saldana, she is really snagging her piece of Hollywood.  I'm a fan of her style and she always seems to wear her hair in cute styles, plus it always looks healthy.  I love the above look showing off her long layers.

She recently sported a cute chignon at the Jimmy Kimmel show.  I love the wispy pieces that make the 'do look less uptight.

But my favorite Zoe Saldana hairstyle is when she rocks waves!  What do you think?  What's your favorite Zoe Saldana hairstyle?

Cover Grey With Bigen

I am the resource for my family when it comes to new beauty, grooming, and hair care items.  Whether it's to ask a question or try something new out of the beauty closet they come to me.  So when my mom started getting more grey hair than she would like to have, she of course came to me asking what she should use.

Ever since I began experimenting with henna, my mom has said she would like to try it but she's not really so sure about the whole process.  Immediately, I knew henna was not for her for a few reasons, number one it's extremely messy and you need to leave it on too long for her liking.  I knew that Bigen Semi Permanent Hair Color would be perfect for her.

I chose the Semi-Permanent over the Permanent because it is gentle, oil-rich, conditioning formula nourishes hair with natural moisturizers including honey, beeswax and sunflower, while providing long-lasting color without ammonia or peroxide. Safe for all hair types including chemically treated and relaxed hair. Bigen Semi-Permanent Hair Color leaves hair shiny, soft and beautiful with excellent gray coverage.  Since she wanted a little bit of a red tint we used the Medium Cherry Brown and it came out great!

Be sure to catch Bigen on Twitter and Facebook

Rihanna Rocks Ringlets

Rihanna rocked some serious ringlets for her performance at the V Festival in Hyland Park.  The more I see Rihanna's new brown hair with these golden highlights the more I love it.  Paired with the smokey black eyeliner and a shiny but nude lip, it looked awesome.

What do you think?  Will you be rocking some ringlets a la Rihanna?
