Whether it was on the bustling streets of Manhattan, or the rolling sand dunes in Morocco, Frank Barbosa, Hair Department Head on Sex and the City 2 made sure that the four leading ladies didn’t have a hair out of place.

We’re all counting down the days until May 27th, when one of the most anticipated sequels releases and we can catch up with the girls. It’s a given that we’ll be in store for some fabulous fashion, but Frank leaks that we’re going to get a hair-full as well.

For the girls’ relaxed natural waves seen at their desert picnic:

• Start out with a basic blow out.

• Using a curling iron with a 1 ½ barrel, wrap hair around the iron without opening it and securing it under the clamp.
• After unraveling the curl from the iron, pull the curl out by running your fingers through it.
• Repeat around entire head.

Patricia Field's House of Field

I was so bummed that I had to work the night of Sex and the City 2's costume designer Patricia Field's House of Field Eyewear, Swimwear, and Beach Towels in NYC. The hairstyles were fierce! Check out how Redken created the hair styles for presentation!

To complement the ultra stylish and super glam looks designed by the queen of costume designing herself along with David Dalrymple, Rodney Cutler for Cutler/Redken pushed the envelope in hair styling as he created the perfect youthful fishtail-ed updo to play on Patricia’s eye for sophisticated fashion: “The high fishtail braid is a fun evening looking and very wearable. We've seen so many buns up top and this is just taking it one step further," explained Cutler.

To create the look, Rodney prepped hair by applying Redken align 12 protective straightening lotion and blow-dryed through with a medium brush. Next, he tightly gathered into a high ponytail on the very top of the head, about three inches from the hair line and secured with an elastic. He then took a small piece of hair and wrapped around the elastic and secured with a bobby pin. Next, a fish-tail braid* was weaved down to the end of the hair and pinned in upon itself right at the hairline. The look was finished with Redken vinyl glam 02 mega shine spray for shine and Redken forceful 23 super strength finishing spray for extra strong hold for a look that undeniably shouted “Hello Lover” on the runway!

1) Split the hair to be braided into two equal sections


2) Pull a small strand of hair from the left section and add it to the right section


3) Then, pull a small strand of hair from the right section and add it to the left


4) That will create a small X


5) Repeat until all the hair is used


6) Secure with a clear plastic band

Lifestyle Leak: Eat, Pray, Love Book 2 Movie

 I went to see Sex & the City 2 solo on friday morning (going to the movies solo is was on my bucket list and I figured what movie is more fabulous than SATC2?!?)  Anyway, don't fret this won't give away any spoilers because what I want to chat about is a preview I saw for Eat.Pray.Love starring Julia Roberts.  Up until I saw that trailer I never even knew what the book was about, but now I HAVE to read the book before I venture out (solo again!) to see this movie.

I'm Juicing!

My ladies from LCHF (Long Hair Care Forum) know what the Juice is, but for those of you know have no idea what I'm talking about... the Juice is any moisturizer that was originally created for Jheri Curls.  Yup, Jheri Curl Juice!  So when I say I'm Juicing, that means I'm using Jheri curl juice on my hair.  Ask anyone who had a Jheri curl back in the day and they will tell you that their hair grew like crazy when they had the Jheri curl.  It wasn't the style, it was the moisturization.  Jheri Curl Juices use glycerin as the main moisturization ingredient and hair loves it!  A few of the favorite juices of my fellow Nikos cousins are Care Free Curl GoldS Curl, and my favorite Wave Nouveau, another one is Lustrasilk Right on Curl Activator. 

Hopefully, Juicing will get my nape on track!  I'll be sure to keep ya posted! 

Mizani Relaxer = Flaky Scalp?

I got my last relaxer done at the salon, just because I didn't feel like doing it myself.  My stylist used a Mizani relaxer on my hair, which was fine with me because that's what I used last time at I really liked the results.  Anyway, 6 days later I noticed crazy amounts of dandruff (or what I though was dandruff) on my scalp and throughout my hair.  Even though I had another hair appointment the very next day I couldn't go in looking like that so I washed my hair myself and slathered on conditioner and left it like that until my appointment. 

When I got to the salon I told my stylist what happened with the dandruff and she told me that Mizani relaxers usually dry out the scalp something crazy and cause flakes like that, but she assured me it was not dandruff because if it was she would be able to rake up more flakes but she was unable to.  I was satisfied with this explanation, but I couldn't help but wonder if anyone else experienced this from using a Mizani relaxer?  Then I started thinking about my previous relaxer and I did remember some flakes after that relaxer too, so next time I'll be asking her to use something different.

Dominican Cellophane

Back in the day I had my fair share of Sebastian Cellophane rinses.  Since my hair isn't really that dark, the color deposits show up nicely especially when I'm outside in the sunlight.  However, as of late, I haven't been experimenting too much with them.  My favorite Sebastian Cellophane was Ginger, but to my knowledge that color is gone from the Cellophane's collection now.  Anyway, when my new stylist suggested that I try a Dominican Cellophane, I said okay.  She explained to me that she preferred the Dominican Cellophanes over the Sebastian version because with fine hair (that would be me) the Sebastian version can make the strands feel thick and slightly hard.  Honestly, I don't remember my hair feeling too different after using Sebastian's but I figured I'd try out the Dominican Cellophane. 

My stylist mixed up a few colors for my hair.  Honey, Cinnamon, and Clear is my mix in case you're wondering.  I'm in LOVE!  Although the color difference is extremely minor the shine and conditioning factor from the Dominican Cellophane was amazing!  My hair is soft and shiny and I love that, plus the shine is long lasting.  Sorry guys, my stylist didn't tell me the brand name of the Dominican Cellophane, but I can tell you that RoundBrushHair.com has a few different Cellophanes from DR so you might want to check that out. 

Here's some more info about Dominican Cellophane: They create an intense semi-permanent translucent hair color.  The Cellophane's have no peroxide and no ammonia. Long lasting and rich tones and also provides some conditioning. 

How it use:  My stylist shampooed my hair, then applied the color, covered my hair with a plastic cap and sat me under a dryer for about 30-40 minutes.  After that she rinsed out the color and conditioned my hair.

The Truth About Trims

Lucie Doughty, Editorial Director for Paul Mitchell sets the record straight about how often you should be trimming your hair!

Lucie says:  "It really depends on the shape, length, and texture of hair. Long, curly hair may only need a trim twice a year while a short, precision haircut needs one every 6-8 weeks.  If you have fine hair it splits easily and will need regular trims to keep it looking healthy.  It just comes down to the individual and how committed they are to healthy hair."

Hair Cut + Bangs

I got the scissor bug AGAIN!  Yup, I know I said I was going to stay away from the scissors this time, but I just can't.  First, I went and got a haircut.  My hair is now hoovering around APL, some days it looks shorter and other days it looks longer but regardless the swang of my new 'do is crazy!  I'm loving it.  BUT, that wasn't enough.  The week following my haircut, I got a Dominican Cellophane to brighten up my natural color and I got side swept bangs cut!  Now I'm completely satisfied with my hair, I'm no longer bored with it!  It's so light and fluffy, I love my hair...  Yay!

Lifestyle Leak: Homemade Piggies in the Blanket

If you read Beauty Blvd. then you would know that I moved out on my own. First, let me say I absolutely love my place, my new found freedom, but what's lacking is dinner. Since, I only have myself to cook for usually I just whip up something fast instead of actually planning a meal to include all the necessities - resulting in more than a few additional pounds packed onto my frame. My favorite snack food is piggies in the blanket! I was purchasing the small hor dovur box until I realized I can make these for so much cheaper and they taste better.

It's super easy - all you need is a package of Nathan's 100% beef lil franks, Pillsbury Crescent rolls, and a little butter or olive oil.


Step 1 - Open the lil franks and the Pillsbury Crescent rolls
Step 2 - Spread out the crescent roll dough and cut into strips
Step 3 - Take about a 1 inch strip of rolled out dough and wrap in around the lil frank, place on a non-stick baking sheet
Step 4 - Repeat step 3 until all the franks are wrapped
Step 5 - melt the butter in the microwave and coat the tops of the wrapped franks to help brown
Step 6 - pop in the oven for about 15 minutes on 350 degrees
Step 7 - remove from oven, let cool
Step 8 - EAT & Enjoy (with a little mustard on the side)!

Sun Protection for your Hair and Scalp
