Fall 2009 Hair Trend: Side Ponytails

Side Ponytail's are hot for Fall 2009!

“A ponytail secured on the side of the head is easy and is always in.” says Redken Session Stylist, Noah Hatton. Begin by creating a deep side part on either side of the head. Prep by spritzing fabricate 03 heat active texturizer (SRP $13.00) on dry hair and blow-dry the product through. The use of product will add extra texture to the tail resting on the shoulder. Gather all of the hair in a low ponytail on the opposite side of the part, just below the earlobe and secure with elastic. Make sure the end of the ponytail falls over the shoulder so you can see the ends of the ponytail from the front. “For an added variation, don’t pull the end of the ponytail all the way through the last loop. Stop midway. This creates a loose, deconstructed bun – we see this look sported quite often on the runways at Fashion Week,” Hatton explains.

This is an excellent back to school hair style for teens. To up the trend factor, add braids. To duplicate the fishtail braid, first create a low side-part. Then, pull a two-inch front hair section away from the larger side of the part and separate from the rest of the head – this will be the hair included in the braid. Begin French braiding this piece right along the forehead hairline, stopping right behind the ear or taking it further back. Then grab the rest of the hair and create a fish tail braid to one side.

Fall 2009 Hair Trend: Braids

Ace the sweeping braid Fall 2009 Hair Trend with these tips from Redken Session Stylist, Noah Hatton.

Sweeping Braid

Everyone remembers Jennifer Aniston’s fabulous ivory beaded number at the Oscars. Equally as popular was the beautiful hairline side-braid she flaunted. Hatton suggests duplicating Aniston’s look by first creating a low side-part. Then, pull a two-inch front hair section away from the larger side of the part and separate from the rest of the head – this will be the hair included in the braid. Begin French braiding this piece right along the forehead hairline, stopping two to three inches from top of the ear. Secure with bobby pins, or a hair clip for an added accessory element. Keep the natural texture for the rest of your hair and finish with Redken workforce 09 flexible volumizing spray (SRP $15.00) for all-day hold that will last when running from class to class.

Step it up with multiple braids like the featured styles from Essence.com and really stand out. For a variation on this look, Hatton recommends pulling the rest of the hair back into a ponytail and securing with elastic in the middle of the crown. “The braided element in the front adds an instant update to the standard ponytail,” says Hatton. For extra control and to tame flyaways, Hatton recommends prepping the front section with a bit of full frame 07 protective volumizing mousse (SRP $15.00) before braiding. After braiding, tame any loose pieces with a small amount of Redken water wax 03 shine defining pomade (SRP $17.00) after it’s been secured.

Fall 2009 Hair Trend: Updos

Classic 'dos including French twists, chignons and menswear-inspired quiffs are returning to the runway. These classic updos are far from being the old stuffy looks you might be afraid of, instead these looks are thoroughly modernized with unexpected, soft subversive touches.

Guido, a Redken Creative Consultant, that styled tons of different models for Fall/Winter 2009 fashion shows, creating modern updos. Here are some tips to recreate the looks at home.

* Revolutionize the classic French Twist with height and texture worthy of Marie Antoinette, as seen at Louis Vuitton. Apply thickening lotion 06 body building, rough dry, curl, backcomb and then pin inot a messy French twist. Luckily, most of my readers have great thick hair so they won't need all the rough combing and backcombing, instead just allow your hair to airdry to create lots of great volume and texture and then twist it up into a messy French twist.

* Defined shapes require maximum hold. At Marc Jacobs, Guide used forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to keep his '80s-inspired 'dos in place. Layer it on for the textreme, over-lacquered finish seen on the runway.

* The newest chignons feature a strong side part, with on side swept over the eye and then other tucked behind the ear. Mist on vinyl glam 02 mega shine spray and quick dry 18 instant finishing spray for the look seen at Miu Miu.

The look seen at Miu Miu is the best overall style I see, it's actually ready to wear as is, the other's? Not so much, because it's still fun to look at, what do you think? GIVEAWAY: I'd love to know your thoughts and one lucky commentor might win something! Please US residents only, sorry. Winner will be announced on September 1st.

Fall 2009 Hair Trend: Color by Wella

For her fall 2009 collection, Catherine Malandrino has drawn on the Surrealist movement, which emerged in the 1930s after “Black Thursday” as a way for artistic ingenuity to uplift the community and inject life back into society. The new Malandrino collection is inspired by the colors of Surrealism, as well as the mood and feelings portrayed by the movement itself.

The Hair Look:
To achieve this Surrealist inspired look, Malandrino, Odile Gilbert, and Eva Scrivo collaborated for an end result both unexpected and curious—alluding to the artists of this era. A sleek, sophisticated chignon pushes the creative envelope when crafting multiple shapes, while colored extensions and netting add dimension and life to make this updo anything but typical. “The colored extensions themselves are a beautiful intermingling of light to dark tones, which we will customize for a unique look on each model,” says Odile. "It's modern art without being pretentious.”

Fashion and hair are intrinsically linked. In the same way fabric is altered with color and design, hair color is meant to enhance the cut and style. Wella Professionals called upon master colorist Eva Scrivo, owner of Eva Scrivo Salon in NYC, to customize 90 colored extensions exclusively with Wella Professionals color. Scrivo colored large and small panels of hair in sections of varying widths so when the hair overlaps in the updo the colors weave together for a very natural effect, similar to that of wood grain. Scrivo explains, "When you look at the texture and color of wood grain, you see that the tones run parallel to each other - light and dark, wide and narrow, yet they blend together for a dimensionalized result.”

To recreate this color effect in-salon, Scrivo recommends the Wella Professionals Color Blending Service, available at select salons carrying Wella Professionals color, which implements vertical blending of colors around the head for a 360° radius of shine. The technique is finalized by creating depth through hair painting with deeper shades in a variety of tonal families. A final layering effect allows for various shades to shine through while still blending together naturally in a very organic and non-symmetrical manner.

Fall 2009 Hair Trend: Classic Curls

It seems like every fall Curls make a powerful statement and Fall 2009 is no different. Curls are officially a Fall 2009 Hair Trend.

The Fall 2009 Tracy Reese collection was inspired by post-impressionist portraiture, using lots of colors and pattern mixing. To complement the romantic, understated glamour, TRESemmé created a relaxed low pony, loosening curls to create long, flowing waves and adding volume to soften the overall style. Using the right products, this look is easy to achieve at home:

1. On damp hair, spray roots with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Root Boosting Spray. Applying from root to ends, layer with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse.

2. Rough-dry hair with a blow dryer using hands, working roots with fingers to give hair natural volume.

3. Next, curl random sections of hair with a 3/4 curling iron, and rake fingers through hair to loosen up the curls.Spray hair with TRESemmé Smooth Frizz Shield Finishing Spray, and shake out style to give it a “rough”look.

4. Pull hair back into a loose, low pony at the nape of neck, allowing hair to slightly cover the top of the ear. Secure with a barrette or elastic, and voilà, runway-worthy hair!

4 Minute Curls with Ouidad

This girl is cute so I had to share with you her tips and tricks to get perfect curls in 4 minutes flat. Here's the catch it probably only works with people that have similar hair texture to hers. It would not work for me, anyway check it out.

Fall 2009 Hair Trend: Big n Bold Hair

Big Bold hair is a Fall 2009 Hair Trend! At William Rast, the style was truly rock ‘n roll– full of leather, fringe and denim. To complete this look, TRESemmé created chic, tousled rocker waves. Follow these simple steps to achieve this laid-back look:

1. First, apply TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse to wet hair from roots to ends. Power dry with a blow dryer, using fingers.

2. Next, create a center part from front to nape. Then create another part from ear to ear, dividing hair into four sections.

3. Twist one section of hair, and spray with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Spray Gel, and diffuse twist with a blow dryer.

4. Curl twist into a loose bun, and set with a hairpin. Continue for all sections, creating four buns (two above the ears and two behind the ears).

5. Once cool, remove pins allowing all buns to fall, and shake out with fingers. Finish with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray.

Big bold hair was seen all over the Fall 2009 runaways during fashion week, Baby Phat Fall 2009 models rocked some seriously fierce curls complete with a side part. Once you get the texture down the rest is easy to play with, sweep it all back with a thin headband or create a deep side part for added drama.
GIVEAWAY: One lucky US reader will win a TRESemmé prize pack featuring a variety of products to create a bunch of different looks. All you have to do is comment on this post! Be sure to check back on August 27th to find out if you are the winner! I will need your mailing address within 3 days. cs

Listerine for Hair Growth

I'm a frequent flyer on Long Hair Care Forums, probably one of the biggest, oldest, and best hair forums around.  Anyway, sometimes things get a little crazy over there, like this topic.  Listerine for Hair Growth.  Okay, I just want to say right now, some things you just never ever do.  Please, I can't even rinse my mouth out with undiluted listerine for a full 30 seconds and now you want me to pour it onto my scalp?  Yeah, right, okay... I'll pass.  It could grow my hair to my butt overnight and I still won't do it, why?  Because the alcohol content in Listerine is so high that while I might have hair to my butt, it will be dry and brittle.  Not to mention the only reason why this just might work is the peppermint, so instead get yourself some peppermint oil and get to work.  It will be just as scalp stimulating... I promise.

While I'm here... BIG HEY'S TO ALL MY LHCF Girlies!

Fall 2009 Hair Trend: Low Buns + Side Parts

Low buns paired with a side part are a hot hair trend for Fall 2009! Finally, right ladies, a hair trend that is conducive to protective styles.

As seen at Tadashi Shoji Fall 2009 Fashion show, Rodarte Fall 2009 show, Lorick Fall 2009 show, and Michael Kors Fall 2009 Fashion show.

Backstage at the Fall Tadashi Shoji show Rodney Cutler was inspired by Tadashi’s elegant flowing gowns, and wanted to give the hair a fresh, young feel. To create this look, Cutler says, “We used a side part for a strong chic silhouette and pulled the hair back into a knot where it hugs the hair line around the face.” To get this runway-worthy look at home, follow Cutler’s simple steps below.

1. Spray Cutler Protectant Treatment - Spray onto damp hair, then layer Cutler Straightening Cream from mid-length to ends
2. Rough-dry hair with Izunami Agile Hair Dryer. Once dry, flat iron with Izunami One Inch Styler Flat Iron from roots to mid-length. Curl ends of hair with a large curling iron to add texture
3. Pull hair tight so it sits close to the head and twist the length into a low sitting knot
4. Finally, secure it with French pins and smooth Cutler Fly-Away Stick for added shine and to tame any fly-aways
5. Finish with Redken Workforce 09 hairspray to hold, add in a headband and you’re runway-ready!

Tyra's National Natural Hair Day

If you keep up with pop culture or what's happen with celebs and that sort of thing then I'm sure you've read or heard all about Tyra Banks declaring September 8th, Natural Hair Day.  If not here is an excerpt from KansasCity.com

Tyra Banks announced her plans this week to reveal her natural hair to kick off the ninth season of “The Tyra Banks Show.”  “Guess What! I’m rockin’ my REAL hair on my talk show September 8th. No fake hair at all!” she posted to her Twitter page.  “Will be the hair coming out of my scalp! 4 all 2 C! no ponytails, no ballet bun head. hair will be out and free!”

In an official statement, Tyra said her show is “taking it to the next level and getting more real than ever before by encouraging women everywhere to own and rock what they’ve got and be proud.” In that vein, she’s declaring Sept. 8 National Real Hair Day. “We welcome everyone to go natural with me,” she said.

Now that Tyra has said all that and made an official statement the internet hair world is buzzing about the topic.  People are saying things like I can't wait, to we've already seen her 'natural' hair in the form of cornrows, and of course the comments like who really cares everyday should be natural hair day are coming out all over the place.  But I think many people are confused, because I get the impression that Tyra will only be sans weave, not sans relaxer.  I bet Tyra's hair is relaxed and dyed red, even if she's not relaxed under those weaves who wants to bet that she will be flat ironed out on this so called Natural Real Hair Day?

If she even has hair let after all those years of wearing weaves and stuff... how funny would it be if she just busted out with a baldie!

Fall 2009 Hair Trend: Side Swept Hair

Go back to your roots this Fall with a trend that marked the early 90’s. Side swept hair makes a comeback this September with celebrities and models pulling out all the stops to achieve this wispy, caarefree ‘do. Prepping tresses is so last year, keep it simple and give into this tousled, lax look.

This “look” was most recently recognized at the Proenza Schouler 2009 show, but can be remembered from a decade ago from on screen icons like the movie Poison Ivy and Alicia Silverstone’s debut in the Aerosmith video Crazy. That being said, although the side swept looks seems a bit rock n roll, it can also set a very glamorous statement if used with the right products, sans flyaways.

To mimic this look (at a fraction of the cost), prep hair with Charles Worthington London BIG HAIR Texturizing Salt Spray to intensify and draw out natural waves and patterns. Then, use BIG HAIR Full Volume Uplifting Mousse to amplify natural movement with incredible shine that also prevents static without flaking. Polish the ends of your hair with a shot of BIG HAIR Full Volume Ultrafine Hairspray to smooth away flyaways. Check out one of my all time favorite Aerosmith video and song featuring 90's Princess Alicia Silverstone, everytime I see her I want to scream out AS IF!!!

Salon Review: Wellington Hair Spa

I was invited to check out the Wellington Hair Spa and get my hair done, so I jumped at the opportunity... little did I know I was going to end up with a new cut!

The Rundown:

Wellington Hair Spa
119 West 23rd Suite 501
New York, New York 10011
(212) 206-2962

First Impressions:

Alright, first let me say I am NOT a New Yorker. I'm from New Jersey and I've never been one to run into the city for this and that. With that being said, the place a bit a tricky for me to find. I found myself at 119 West 23rd street, but the salon was no where to be found so I continued walking to yet another 119 West 23rd St. and there it was. FYI: it's between 6th and 7th Avenues. So once I arrived I was greeted by Patrick himself (owner of the salon) and invited to slip into a super comfy black wrap style robe. The salon it's self is decked out in a black and red color scheme and very open and lofty feeling.

Services Received:

Patrick came right over and asked me what we were doing today, I replied, "I'm in your hands." Since it had been about 9 weeks since my last relaxer, we went ahead and relaxed my hair using a Mizani relaxer. Patrick also came right out and said, "how much hair are you ready to cut off today?" I was a bit shocked and taken back, inside I was screaming not an inch whip out those scissors and you'll be sorry! But my more rational side just replied, not too much but I'm looking for a little change. Who was I fooling? I did not at all want a hair trim, much less a hair cut.

Once I got to the shampoo bowl it was on! Patrick is a big tall man with big hands to match, I swore to myself about 100 times during the whole shampoo and conditioning process that I was never going to let another woman or typical salon man (read: small soft hands) wash my hair ever in life. Ladies, yes... it was that good. Patrick delivers the best scalp massage EVER (period). Now, I'm not a woman with a large head, so just one of Patrick's hands easily covered almost 90% of my head. Now image two huge strong hands massaging away while the warm water runs over your scalp. You might think I'm just exaagerating, but I'm telling you... go there and see for yourself. You'll be in heaven.

The scalp massage was so good, I didn't care how much hair he cut off. So once I got into the chair to start the blow dry process I was entirely relaxed, any tension about my upcoming cut was gone out the window. Patrick blow dried my hair so gently, no hot scalps or trying to run away in the chair. He only used a blow dryer and a wide tooth comb, to smooth and straighten he used a flat iron and then the cutting began. Patrick is a perfectionist, I can tell from his work style so I was in the chair for a while watching hair fall all around me. To tell the truth, I did get a bit worried that he might be cutting of too much hair.

Once he was completely finished, I took a look in the mirror and was stunned. How could this be? He was cutting for what seemed like hours and so much hair was on the floor! The end result is a slightly longer than shoulder length bob of sorts. The front is slightly longer than the back and I have a few layers. But the cut is totally me, just hipped up and cooler. I'm beyond happy with the results! Check me out later that night at the brand new Times Square Sephora the night before it opened for beauty even with special guest Lauren Luke sporting my new hair!

Fall 2009 Hair Trend: Waves

Power Outage Waves are a Fall 2009 Hair trend that has been spotted on celebrities, red carpets, and runways.

Don’t have time to mess around with hot tools while you’re rushing to head out the door? Here’s a great trick to create natural waves in a flash: take dry hair and spritz a bit of curl force 17 texturizing spray-gel (SRP $16.00), “It’s a trick we used on a photoshoot at the beach when the power ran out,” notes Redken Session Stylist, Noah Hatton. “This product allows the hair to keep the curl easier and helps it coil naturally.” GIVEAWAY: Win the Curl Force 17 by leaving a comment on this post (US residents only). Then spritz workforce 09 flexible volumizing spray (SRP $15.00) all over and separate your hair into four sections. Start twisting one piece until it coils in on itself and secure with several bobby pins. Do the same with the three other sections, making sure to twist in the same direction each time to create a consistent, natural-looking smooth wave. Leave coils pinned for 20 minutes while picking out your outfit or putting on your makeup. Before heading out the door, remove the bobby pins and shake out the waves, and finish with outshine 01 anti-frizz polishing milk (SRP $16.00) to tame frizz and add shine.

Editor's Tip: This style works best when your hair has already been straightened. It can breathe new life into an old rollerset. Basically it's bantu knots, only you make four... but I say make as many as you want but remember the small the knot the tighter the wave.

Fall 2009 Hair Trend: Color Wars

As temperatures begin to cool down outside, so will haircolor this fall/winter 2009 season with more sophisticated cooler brunettes and blondes. Tracey Cunningham, Redken Creative Consultant for Color, and David Stanko, Haircolor Consultant for Redken, have the latest in fall haircolor trends, professional haircolor products to achieve these trends, and consumer tips to communicate with their colorist and to adjust to the “coolest” looks of the season.

“Small adjustments can help consumers update their look from season to season,” explains Cunningham. “When summer comes to a close, I plan to cool my clients’ shades down this fall/winter season with Redken’s new Color Gels Ash Blue creating sophisticated, cool shades. A color is said to have "cool tones" if it tends toward blue or violet, such as platinum blondes, ash browns, and plum reds.”

Trend #1: Brunettes
“Brunettes will go to a whole new level this fall/winter with an overall cooler base. Think Fergie’s shade; her lighter highlights really show through her dark, chestnut base making her haircolor look so flawless and effortless.” – Tracey Cunningham

Trend #2: Blondes
“Blondes will be blonde this fall – think Drew Barrymore’s cool, nearly platinum blonde shade for this inspiration. Client’s can often be concerned with the cost to achieve and keep the perfect shade of blonde, but I find that women cut back in other areas rather than haircolor as it’s one of a consumers’ most prominent and most seen everyday accessory!” – Tracey Cunningham

Trend #3: Redheads

“I brought Lindsay back to her original roots as a true redhead. This fall/winter, redheads will be more sophisticated, and playful with their beautiful shade, with deep red tones and a few cool, blonde highlights throughout to enhance the red even more.” – Tracey Cunningham

It's completely handmand, natural and SLS free. The Shampoo bar is blended with pure Shikakai, Cinnamon, Cranberries and other moisturizing agents.

Campus Living: Hair Care

Congratulations! In just a few weeks you will be living on campus at college! I'm so proud of you, you'll do amazingly well if you prioritize, set goals, and stay focused. While I was in college my hair seriously suffered, I was on the diving team for a short stent and in the water on a daily basis. I had no idea as to what I was doing with my hair and if I could go back I would do everything differently.

Supplies:

If you already have a favorite shampoo and conditioner that works well for you, that's awesome stick with what you know and get your parents to buy you the largest size possible. If that's not possible, stock up on the regular sized stuff while you are home and have access to it, because there is no telling where the nearest beauty supply store is to your campus.

Styles:

Hopefully, you've mastered a few hairstyles that you can do yourself. Not only will you find yourself strapped for cash, but usually college freshmen can't have a car so how will you get to the salon? And before you scoot down the hall to Teshia's cousin's best friend that does hair, check out a few other heads that she has done and make sure the don't look hot mess or worse have damaged hair. You've been working so hard at maintaining healthy hair, don't trust your tresses to just anyone.

You use WHAT?!?

Once I made friends on campus and they caught a glimpse of my product stash, some of them flat out asked, 'why are you using all these white girl products?' Please don't let them sway you to use products that you already know don't do anything for you. Look at their hair and then make your decision, because you're hair is doing well with what you use right?

Easy on the Heat!

Going out at night is a big part of campus life. I could lie and tell you it isn't, but it really is. The key is moderation, don't go out every single night and when you do try some styles with texture. In other words, put the flat iron away for a little bit. You're only going to dance the night away and sweat out your perfect flat iron job by the morning anyway, trust me... I know. Braid-outs and twist-out are just as cute and keep you away from all the heat.

Space Issue:

You have a lot of hair product needs, you might even be a hair product junkie. It's okay, but please understand dorms do not look like how they are shown on TV or in the Target, K-mart, Bed Bath & Beyond, or Walmart ads. Most dorms are a step up from a jail cell and space will be tight, so make sure you bring what you need and have a home for it. Bed risers are awesome and plastic crates are perfect to put all your things in and slide under your bed, don't leave it in the bathroom cause it will disappear.

Hair News: Cool Color with Redken Ash Blue

Fall & Winter 2009 is going to be all about achieving your perfect color, and this season it's all about color with cool undertones.    David Stanko, Haircolor Consultant for Redken, have the latest in fall haircolor trends, professional haircolor products to achieve these trends, and consumer tips to communicate with their colorist and to adjust to the “coolest” looks of the season.

Redken is launching the new Color Gels Ash Blue shades creating sophisticated, icy cool blondes and brunettes to cool, correct, and condition women’s hair,” states Stanko. “The three new easy-to-use, versatile shades, neutralize warmth and increase cool tonalities from subtle to intense degrees. Redken’s exclusive Select Dye System ensures long-lasting results with supple conditioning and shine. Consumers looking for these cooler shades for fall/winter should ask their colorist about the new Color Gels Ash Blue.”

Redken’s new Color Gels Ash Blue Features and Benefits:

· Select Dye System: 100% oxidative, long-lasting dyes for color with holding power and resistance to fading

· Wheat Proteins: Help protect hair’s protein structure during the coloring process

· Avocado Oil: Serves as a natural emollient to help keep hair soft, touchable and glossy

“Remember that good communication with your colorist is essential for getting the color you want,” adds Stanko. “A few minutes of pre-salon prep can help you explain your goals, and ensure that your colorist understands your desired result.”

Things to know before you go:

· Try to walk into the salon with your everyday "look," so your colorist can get a feel for what you're comfortable with.

· If you have the time, do a little research into color science. Knowing the difference between terms like demi-permanent and permanent color can help you and your colorist communicate more efficiently. Study up with Redken's glossary.

· Your colorist is there to work with you to achieve beautiful color. The more you can explain what you want, the better the collaboration will be.

· If you are going in for "corrective color" – to correct color results you are unhappy with from a prior coloring experience – be prepared for a longer visit, as your colorist may need to remove old color and then recolor your hair.

Rock the Look: Sienna Miller at GI Joe Premiere

Sienna Miller and co-stars at the Los Angeles premiere of G.I. Joe, Hollywood, CA
Frederic Fekkai's, Adie Abergel styled Sienna Miller for the LA premiere of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

INSPIRATION:

Adir wanted to create a modern day Veronica Lake look that had wonderful movement and softness with lots of shine and bounce.

TO GET THE LOOK:

Adir started by creating a very strong side part. To form a perfect side part, follow the arch of the eyebrow to the back of the head.

Adir then applied FEKKAI ZERO-HUMIDITY FRIZZ CONTROL from the roots to ends; next he applied FEKKAI BOUFFANT only at the roots to add a little body. He then blow-dried the hair with a round brush to create the perfect texture.

Once the hair was completely dry, he took a 1 1/4 curling iron and curled her hair, and then pinned it in place. He did not curl the hair at the root, because he wanted the top of the hair to stay smooth, but wanted to give the rest of the hair body.

After curling, he then let the hair cool down for 10 min and took out the pins. He brushed out the curls with a FEKKAI CLASSIC BRUSH for the perfect smoothness, softness, and bounce.

To finish this look he applied FEKKAI NONCHALANT CREAM to top of her head, to smooth away all those tiny flyways. Finally he added a little bit of FEKKAI SHEER HOLD HAIRSPRAY to lock in the style.

Rock the Look: Megan Fox at Teen Choice Awards 2009

Teen Choice Awards 2009

Renato Campora for Frederic Fekkai, created Megan Fox's hair style for the 2009 Teen Choice Awards, here is the scoop on how to recreate the look.

THE LOOK:

Young tousled, soft and sexy

How to Get the Look:

In order to achieve Megan Fox's soft and sexy summer look Renato started out by using FEKKAI COIFF™ STRONG HOLD VOLUME MOUSSE on damp hair to create sexy texture that holds. He then air-dried her hair his fingers and used a one inch curling iron to make long soft waves and give the hair a modern and fresh feeling. He then spritzed the hair with FEKKAI GLOSSING™ SHEER SHINE MIST to add shine and finished with FEKKAI SHEER HOLD HAIR SPRAY to maintain the look.

Rock the Look: Kristen Stewart at 2009 Teen Choice Awards

Teen Choice Awards 2009 - Arrivals
Dir Abergel, Frederic Fekkai Celebrity Stylist, tended to the locks of Kristen Stewart for the 2009 Teen Choice Awards.  I have to give Frederic Fekkai Stylist, Abergel credit because Kristen had to chop off a lot of her hair for an upcoming role and they were able to make a little something out of nothing, I'm still not crazy in love with it but it could have been a lot worse.

INSPIRATION:

60's Rock and Roll pompadour with a spiky ponytail.

HOW TO GET THE LOOK:

Adir first started out by applying the FEKKAI COIFF™ NONCHALANT PIECING & FORMING WAX to the palm his hands and then added the FEKKAI COIFF™ EXTRA CONTROL STYLING GEL for extra texture and shine. He applied this to her damp hair until it was full saturated.

To get the right texture with short layered haircut like Kristen's, you must apply enough products until you get it to look right and feels right. It is important to fully saturate the hair with product.

Once the product was in the hair he took a blow-drier and hand dried into his desired style, directing all the hair with his fingers back to the nape of her neck.

To finish the look, he took the back of the hair and pulled it into a twisted ponytail letting the ends out and then spraying the front with the FEKKAI SHEER HOLD HAIRSPRAY. Make sure to leave random pieces out for a more chill vibe.

Fergie Goes Glam -

I might be in the minority when I say I like Fergie's hair better dark than light. What looks better on her might be up for debate, but the fact that the brown hair color is beyond fierce is a solid fact. Fergie's brown locks are glowing on the cover of Marie Claire's August issue!

Tracey Cunningham, Redken Creative Consultant for Color, is responsible for the amazing brown hue. She used Redken Shades EQ and Shimmer One professional haircolor to keep Fergie looking glam.

If you’re looking for Fergie’s shade, talk to your colorist about Tracey’s formula for Fergie:

* Shimmer One 4N as a base color

* Equal parts Shimmer One 4N and 6N around the hairline

* Finish with Shades EQ 06N Moroccan Sand all over to tone and add shine

For Reference, Redken Shades EQ is a demi-permanent color which provides healthy, shiny results, incredible conditioning with an amazing number of mixing possibilities. Shades EQ is used as a glaze, color refresher, and also color correction. Ingredients include acidic pH; no lift, non-ammonia formula; long-lasting colorants; wheat amino acids, and silicon.

Shimmer One is Redken’s first ammonia-free, 1 level lift permanent color cream that instantly brightens, conditions and adds more shine every time you use it. Exclusive Tri-Light Technologyä delivers soft, radiant color in 21 tempting shades, plus Clear. Locks in moisture and protection, then infuses hair deeply with a shine so strong it shimmers…and all in just 20 minutes.
