Dominican Hair Conditioners

Long time readers of AHS know that Miss Keys 10 en 1 is one of my all time favorite conditioners.  I love the scent and it's ability to maximize the softness and manageability but I've somewhat abandoned my Dominican Hair Conditioners, in attempts to find the next best thing.  But not anymore, I visited a local beauty supply store and was pleasantly surprised to find Miss Keys 10 en 1, Silicon Mix, Una Bomba, among many others and the prices were way cheaper than online stores.

So, Ladies, do you love Dominican Conditioners?

Relaxer Time

Relaxer time is approaching and I've seriously been thinking about trying out the PhytoSpecific Relaxer. You know the $60 relaxer? I have the money to purchase it, but I just feel weird about spending $60 on something that I could pick up for $7-$12. I keep hearing people rave about the relaxer, but I mean really is it worth the $60?!? I need further confirmation before I spend that amount of money on it, especially since I could potentially become hooked to this creamy crack and be spending $60 4 times a year, maybe even more often that that.

Advance Techniques Anti-Frizz Capsules

One tiny capsule and I smooth it over my hair and wow! The shine is amazing and my hair feels great. I'm so in love with these tiny capsules, I've been using one capsule everyone 3rd day or so and it's taming all the flyaway hairs I have, plus it's keeping frizz at bay. I'm hooked to these little capsules, I've been hiding them because my mom is loving them too. I ordered more and a few jars for her as well. I like using it right before I wrap my hair and in the morning ... BAM! Or before I go out to add more shine to hair that just blinds as it swings! Dare I say this product has almost made it to holy grail status?!? Try it for yourself and see, ADVANCE TECHNIQUES Anti-Frizz Capsules oh yeah... did I mention it's only $3.99?

Rihanna Loves Motions

Remember a while ago Ichatted about Motions new Marula Shampoo and Conditioner and how great it is? If not, here it is. Anyway, lookie here: (As seen on ELLE) “Rihanna has a great head of hair, but styling, relaxing, and coloring have weakened it,” says the singer’s longtime stylist, Ursula Stephen. “I just started using the Motions Marula Shampoo and Conditioner on her hair, and it’s helping to rebuild her strands. Marula is very nourishing.” ELLE just ran a story on celebrities and their budget beauty favorites. Check out what other affordable products the celebs love!

FHI Heat Nano Weight Pro 1900 dryer

I know a lot of my readers shy away from heat products at times, but I use heat in moderation and when I do it's only the BEST products. Nano Weight Pro 1900 Turbo is one of the lightest professional dryers on the market, I was able to blow dry my entire head without taking an arm rest break. This FHI dryer uses proprietary Nano-Fuzeion Technology to produce unmatched conditioning and shine, and my hair agrees with the product claims. My hair is shiney and bouncing, plus the cool shot feature prevents my scalp from beginning to sweat ruining all my efforts. To find out more information, visit the FHI heat website.
Plus, if you don't want to take my word that the FHI heat tools are great check this out. FHI Heat, the hair industry's leading innovator in ceramic, tourmaline and Nano-Fuzeion technologies, announces that its Runway styling iron has been named "Best Flat Iron" by InStyle for its "Best Beauty Buys" April 2009 issue. The magazine features the Runway in both its print issue and online at http://www.instyle.com/. This represents the second straight year the Runway has received this distinction.

Swimming + Hair Care

I love to swim, in high school I was a swimmer and then a diver in college. I love the water, plus it's a great work-out, the only downside is the hair maintenance. Without proper care, swimming on a daily basis or even a few times a week can reak havoc on your hair, especially hair that is colored, relaxed, or otherwise chemical treated. So what exactly is a girl to do? Stop swimming! Just kidding, keep swimming just try Nana Essence Natural Hair Care Products. "Nana Korolev was born in Russia where she became a competitive swimmer. She soon realized the damage the chemicals used in pools could do: dry brittle hair and split ends everywhere. While traveling from city to city to compete, Nana began collecting local folk recipes for the treatment and revitalization of damaged hair. Through constant washing and testing on her own hair, she was able to select the three most effective organic ingredients that now form the core of Nana Essence products."

Scalp Treatment

I'm sure you have seen the Dr. Miracle's Hair Care products commercials and I'm sure you have an opinion about it... whether you love the commercials or hate them... it's an old issue so why not focus on the products now? I recently had the opportunity to try the Dr. Miracle's Feel It Formula Damaged Hair Medicated Treatment and I absolutely love what it does for my scalp. My hair, on the other hand, not so much. I applied the product to my hair similar to how I would apply a relaxer and then worked it all the way to the ends of my hair. I immediately began feeling a tingly feeling to my scalp. Then after about 30 minutes it made my hair feel stiff and slightly hard so I rinsed it out and found that my hair was feeling a bit stiff, but my scalp felt amazing. My scalp felt clean, refreshed, and revitalized. I will continue to use this product, but I will only use it on my scalp applied like a relaxer for my actual hair I'll try something else from the Dr. Miracle's line perhaps the Deep Conditioning Treatment? Has anyone tried that? If so leave your opinions in the comments section.

Continuous Color! L'Oreal EverPure Review

Spring is here! Everyone is going to be lightening up their hair and brightening up their styles. I personally do not color my hair, but I know that it can be a real challenge maintaining colored styles. Michelle Vance, Color Specialist at Tom Brophy Salon recommends keeping hair optimally conditioned. "The better condition your hair, the greater longevity of the color," she says. "In essence, less time and money spent in the salon." Vance also recommends using products that contain UV protectants and thermal protectants products.

L'Oreal Paris just launched EverPure a completely sulfate-free color care line plus the EverPure conditions contain both UVA and UVB filters to help protect hair from UV rays. EverPure boasts it's anti-fade system in which testing has shown that color lasts up to 32 washes. Even though, my hair is not colored I tried L'Oreal Paris EverPure Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner. If you frequent AHS, you know I'm always on the hunt for moisture replenishing products. So color or no color I couldn't pass up a sulfate free collection that also promises extra nourishment. I've very happy with both the shampoo and conditioner, the shampoo was gentle yet very effective. My hair did not feel stripped at all, instead my hair was clean and my scalp got an extra little boost from mint extracts. The conditioner throughly softened up my hair allowing my Jilbere shower comb to pass through my hair with ease.

Instyler Review Recap

Remember a while back I did a video using the Instyler Rotating Hot Iron Hair Straightener? If not here it is again.

I've gotten so many questions and comments on youtube that I want to set the record straight once and for all. Probably the most frequently asked question I get is "Would you recommend the Instyler for natural 4a-4b hair?" My answer: No! I base this off of my inability to really get close to my own roots when it's time for a relaxer to get my new growth as straight as the rest of my hair. This tool is great for relaxed heads and people with looser curl patterns. Other question I am frequently asked:

"Do you still use the Instyler regularly?"
My answer: Depends, on what you mean by regularly. I do not use flat irons on my hair regularly, but I do continue to use the Instyler from time to time. It's a tad bit heavier than my other flat irons and it is noiser also so it depends on the mood I'm in. Plus what type of style I'm going for, I like that I can straighten my hair and bump the ends all in one, without using two heat tools.

"How much did it cost?"
AHS: I received this product from a PR company to review for Anti Hair Slave - the blog. So the best way to find out is to call Instyler directly or visit their website for more information regarding shipping as well as pricing.

"Have you burned yourself with the Instyler?"
AHS: No, I have never burned myself with the Instyler. If you watch the video you can see that I use the iron with the rotating part away from my head because I'm afraid that I just might burn myself.

"Help! I have the Instyler and I can't style my hair like yours."
AHS: Celebrity Hair Stylist, Dean Banowetz offers his expert advice for achieveing the striaght look with your Instyler. "Position The InStyler’s barrel in the direction you want the hair to go. For this look, The InStyler should be placed underneath the section of hair you are working with. Take a 2-3 inch piece and place the barrel as close to the scalp as possible. Gently slide it down through the ends to create shiny, smooth, straight hair. " Now remember, I use it with the barrel up because I'm afraid to burn myself, that's the only different thing I did aside from protecting my hair with heat protecting products.

Phytospecific Beauty Styling Cream

The Phytospecific line is quickly becoming one of my favorite lines. I recently tried the PHYTOSPECIFIC Beauty Styling Creme and it's fab! I used it on my airdried hair and it moisturized and softened my hair. Phyto claims: "is a daily-use styling aid for curly, frizzy, and relaxed hair. Shea butter and jojoba condition, hydrate and protect hair. Wheat germ oil and essential fatty acids fortify the hair for excellent holding power, and to instantly impart shine and luster." Let me just say that I would not use this product everyday, it's a tad bit heavy for my relaxed hair and I do not notice any holding abilities. Instead, I get amazing shine and condition from this product and I have a feeling it's going to be amazing this summer when I wearing tons of wash and go styles, but I'll keep everyone posted on that!

Lush Henna

Caca Brun Mama Hair Henna

There has been so much talk about henna in the hair blogosphere lately, I'm itching to test it out. I want something that's really easy to use and I discovered that Lush makes henna products. Here is the information about their henna: "Henna is a natural dye derived from Lawsonia inermis, a privet-type bush that grows abundantly throughout the Middle East. Used since about 3400 BC, henna is a safe alternative to coloring hair with commercial hair dyes. It imparts a rich red color and coats hair to make it really shiny. LUSH's Les Cacas are made with only the finest henna from Iran. The four different shades result from mixing henna with other natural ingredients like coffee and fresh lemon juice. All are completely natural and safe, and especially recommended for those with allergies or sensitivities, and women who are pregnant or nursing. "
Caca Brun Mama Hair Henna - rich brown hair with a great shine
Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna - a bright, healthy red color

The website also includes directions of how to apply the henna.
1. Cut henna up into small pieces and put in a heatproof bowl.
2. Add hot water and let steep. Mix to a yogurt-like consistency.
3. Put on gloves and apply from back to front, coating hair thoroughly.
4. Cover in cling wrap for a more vibrant red. Leave on for one to six hours.
5. Rinse, shampoo, and condition hair.Tips: Always do a strand test first. Use face cream (or Ultra Bland) around your hairline and ears to protect skin. Wrap hair in cling film for a redder color. For darker, richer colors, leave on longer (up to six hours).

Treat Your Hair While You Work

My schedule has been very busy lately and I really haven't had the time to devoted an entire day to doing my hair at home. Instead, I have been going to get it down weekly. So far so good, I have no breakage, no thinning, no problems. I bring all my own products to the salon and it's no problem. Now with that being said, since I am in a salon I can't just sit under their dryer for an hour or two but I still want to treat my hair to a longer treatment. So I whipped out my EL' Treatment Rejuvenating Scalp and Hair Serum and saturated my hair from the ends up and put it into a tight bun and went to work. This particular oil has a bit of a smell, thankfully if faded by the time I got to work and no one was the wiser. So for 8+ hours my hair was being treated while I did the things I needed to do. Once I got to the hair salon, my hair had completely absorbed the oil and it did it's thing. My hair was soft, shiny, and easy to manage.

Soft & Beautiful Nighttime Dry Wrap Mousse: Review

If you haven't seen my newest video of my nighttime hair care regimen, it can be viewed on my youtube channel, here is the link. In the video I use Soft & Beautiful Nighttime Dry Wrap Mousse, it's part of the new Soft & Beautiful Ultimate StyleProtect Collection due out this month. I have been using it nightly right before I wrap my hair. The soft peach scent is great. I would have never thought to use a mousse on my hair prior to wrapping it because usually mousse equals hold and stiff hair. This mousse is totally different, it adds shine, moisture, and protects against split ends. The key is to not over wet the hair, instead you just apply a small amount and work it through. The Soft & Beautiful Nighttime Dry Wrap with infused with olive oil, shea oil, and safflower oil and I love this protect.
